First, is it really the opener?

Before you blame the opener, a few quick checks. Do these only if the door is fully closed and nothing looks broken:

  • Power: is the opener plugged in, and is the outlet or breaker working?
  • Wall control: is the lock or vacation mode on?
  • Remote: try a new battery, and see if the wall button works. That tells you whether it's the remote or the opener.
  • Photo eyes: wipe both lenses and check that each one has a steady light. A blinking or dark light means they're blocked or misaligned.
  • Red emergency release: if it was pulled, the door is disconnected from the opener.

What we can do

No guessing and no surprise at the door.

  1. Diagnose

We check power, controls, sensors, the opener's settings, and the door itself, since many opener problems start with the door.

  2. Repair

Common fixes include sensor alignment or replacement, travel and force adjustments, remote and keypad programming, and replacing worn opener parts when they're available.

  3. Repair or replace

If your opener is very old, hard to get parts for, missing safety sensors, or failing repeatedly, we'll say so and quote a replacement.

Repair or replace?

We'll give you an honest answer. These push us toward replacing:

  • The opener is very old. Some lack photo-eye safety sensors entirely.
  • Parts aren't available, or the repair cost is close to a new unit.
  • Repeated breakdowns on the same opener
  • You want quieter operation, a smart or Wi-Fi opener, or battery backup
  • The door itself is heavy or out of balance and needs attention first

We work on LiftMaster, Genie, Chamberlain and most other brands. Call with the brand and what it's doing, and we'll quote it over the phone.

Opener repair in Nashville and Middle Tennessee

Spring storms bring power surges and outages. A surge can damage an opener's control board, and an outage can leave you stuck. A battery backup opener keeps working when the power is out.

Many homes in older Nashville neighborhoods still have openers from decades ago. If yours is one of them, it's worth checking that it has working photo-eye safety sensors.

Opener repair questions in Nashville

Why does my door go down and then reverse?
That's usually the safety system. Check that the photo eyes are clean, lined up and showing steady lights. If that doesn't fix it, the opener's close-limit setting or the door may need adjusting.
My opener light is blinking. What does it mean?
Blink patterns differ by brand and often point to a sensor or wiring fault. Your manual lists the codes. Tell us the brand and what you see, and we'll tell you what it likely is.
Can you program new remotes and keypads?
Yes. Tell us your opener brand and model when you call.
Should I repair or replace my opener?
It depends on age, parts, and how often it's broken down. We'll give you an honest recommendation and the price for each option before you decide.
Will my opener work during a power outage?
Most won't without a battery backup. Every opener also has a red emergency release handle for lifting the door by hand when the door is in good working order. If a spring is broken, don't use it, and call us.
